"The great thing about photographing golf courses from the air is that I never three putt."

Landscapes take on a whole new look from the air. But you should have a pretty good idea of what you want before you start shooting from a helicopter. For the golf shot below I wanted to shoot this golf hole, #15 at Longbow in Mesa, AZ real early in the morning to get the long shadows. So this one was shot about 10 minutes after sunrise.

A few other tips: Only shoot from a stable platform you can position exactly where you want to shoot from. That means a helicopter, a good pilot, and no door to obstruct you from leaning out as far as you need to for the shot. Yes, buckle up.

Camera-wise what makes the most sense is shooting at about ISO 400-1000 at 1/1,000 shutter speed. That way you will eliminate camera-shake due to any helicopter movements.

I  conceived this shot of Weaver's Needle about 3 years ago. The only position to get it was east of the needle at sunrise at 500 feet over Superstition Mountain looking northwest.
This large (84" x 17") panorama of Red Mountain was shot from about 500 feet above Usery Mountain looking northwest in early morning. The large canvas print shows dozens of local landmarks including Camelback Mountain, north Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, the Phoenix skyline, McDowell casino, and the delta where the Salt River meets the Rio Verde.
