I'm currently on seven different stock photo web sites. They are called micro-stock in that they offer good photographs for artists, web designers, ad agencies, etc. for a micro-payment -- as little as 20 cents each and as much as $40 each. In return the photographer receives a commission of 10 to 50% of each sale. The operative word with micro-stock is volume. With this new world-wide market with hundreds of thousands of image users it's not unusual for a photographer to sell one image several times per day.  As an example of the dynamic nature of this business, my sales on iStockphoto have exceeded 14,000 downloads in the last 36 months.
